Odisha approves 152 super‑speciality posts and new specialty departments to strengthen healthcare
The Odisha government has sanctioned 152 new posts for super‑speciality departments across its government medical colleges and hospitals. The posts, covering professor, associate professor, assistant professor and senior resident roles, will be introduced in fields such as cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, nephrology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, surgical gastroenterology and haematology. Colleges receiving positions include Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and a range of regional institutions such as Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College (Koraput), Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College (Baripada), Bhima Bhoi Medical College (Balangir), Fakir Mohan Medical College (Balasore) and others.
In addition, five new specialty departments – cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery and nephrology – have been approved at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College in Baripada, creating 20 faculty and senior‑resident posts. The initiative, authorized by the state Health and Family Welfare Department and the Governor, aims to expand advanced medical services and reduce the need for patients to travel outside northern Odisha for specialist care.
