Odisha begins distribution of corrected school textbooks
The Odisha government has commenced the distribution of corrected school textbooks following previous editions that contained errors. On the first day of the rollout, approximately 45,000 books were distributed across several regions, including Bhubaneswar, Kataka, Jatani, Salepur, and Nischintakoili. The distribution includes Odia textbooks for classes II to VI and Urdu textbooks for classes VI to VIII.
Despite the rollout, some schools report shortages, leaving students without complete sets of essential materials. In these instances, teachers have had to rely on PDF versions to conduct lessons. Students have noted that the lack of physical copies makes studying outside of school hours difficult due to limited digital access.
The textbook errors have sparked political tension and student protests. The Navnirman Yuva Chhatra Sangathan (NYCS) has organized demonstrations, including plans to protest at the Assembly, demanding greater accountability in the education sector. Political figures, including members of the BJD, Congress, and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have expressed concerns over the issue, with some calling for the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond.
