South Asia Monsoon Rains Prompt Flood and Landslide Alerts

Meteorological agencies across South Asia have issued widespread warnings as monsoon systems bring heavy to very heavy rain. In Nepal, the Meteorological Forecasting Division warned of intense rainfall, thunder, lightning and possible flash floods, river flooding, landslides and road disruptions across multiple provinces.

In Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority and provincial bodies (PDMA) have placed large parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit‑Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and other regions on high alert for flood, flash‑flood and landslide risk from July 10‑14. Authorities have mobilised emergency teams, directed drainage operations and urged the public to avoid travel to vulnerable mountainous areas.

India’s India Meteorological Department has placed 18 states, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and several northern and eastern states, under heavy‑rain alerts. The department warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, landslides and flash floods, especially in hilly districts, and advised residents to stay indoors and avoid water‑logged roads.
