Odisha Cabinet Approves ₹2,995 Cr Tribal Livelihood Mission (MMJJM 2.0)
The Odisha state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved the second phase of the Mukhya Mantri Janajati Jeevika Mission (MMJJM 2.0). The flagship programme is fully funded by the state with a budget of ₹2,995 crore and will run for five years (2026‑27 to 2030‑31). It targets roughly 8 lakh tribal and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) households across 19 districts, providing each beneficiary ₹30,000 in two instalments through Direct Benefit Transfer. The scheme is beneficiary‑centric, allowing families to choose livelihood activities such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, sericulture, forest‑based enterprises, handloom, handicrafts and rural entrepreneurship. Infrastructure support includes irrigation facilities, post‑harvest storage, processing units and market linkages, while a ₹500 crore flexi‑fund will address infrastructure gaps in PVTG habitations.
In the same cabinet meeting, 11 proposals from six departments were cleared. Highlights include the 10th amendment to the Odisha GST Act, 2017 to ease post‑sale discounts and refunds, an extension of the Popularisation of Agricultural Implements, Equipment and Diesel Pump Sets scheme for five years with subsidies up to 75 % for women SHGs, and approval of four major irrigation projects under the Anandapur Barrage and Mega Lift Irrigation initiatives.
