Odisha chief minister suspends officials over school textbook errors

Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi suspended four senior education officials – former Director Manoj Kumar Padhy and assistant directors Pralipta Mishra, Dilip Kumar Sahu and Bharati Tudu – after a high‑level committee reported 1,678 errors in textbooks for classes I‑VIII. The committee, chaired by Development Commissioner Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, also recommended disciplinary action against six other assistant directors and outlined 14 corrective measures, including an errata register, replacement pages, a public errata portal, and a quality‑assurance cell within SCERT.

The state government has ordered the immediate implementation of those recommendations to rectify the inaccurate content, which ranged from factual mistakes about Isaac Newton to incorrect images of state landmarks. The move aims to restore confidence in the education system and prevent further dissemination of erroneous material.
