Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi urges coastline cleanliness
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued an appeal to the public to maintain the cleanliness of the state’s coastline. Marking International Coastal Cleanup Day, Majhi emphasized that the ocean is a fundamental component of Odisha’s identity, heritage, and way of life.
The Chief Minister noted that preserving clean shores is essential for developing a thriving Blue Economy while simultaneously protecting marine ecosystems and local livelihoods. He highlighted the cultural and ecological importance of various coastal areas, including the sacred shores of Puri, Gopalpur, the mangroves of Bhitarkanika, and the nesting grounds of Olive Ridley turtles.
Majhi described the coastline as a repository of traditions and memories passed down through generations, noting that the protection of these shores is vital for the security of coastal communities, including fishers, boatmen, and farmers.
