Odisha CM Mohan Majhi observes subdued Durga Puja for farmers
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has decided to observe Durga Puja in a simple and low-key manner to express solidarity with farmers affected by heavy rains and subsequent flooding across the state.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Majhi will refrain from visiting public puja pandals, instead offering prayers for the welfare, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Odisha.
Official reports indicate that the adverse weather has had a significant impact on the region, with over 37.43 lakh people affected in 26 of the state's 30 districts. The floods and heavy rainfall have resulted in the damage of more than 2.12 lakh hectares of crops, the destruction of 18,067 houses, and the death of 93 livestock animals. Seven fatalities have also been reported due to the floods.
