Odisha Congress Demands CBI Probe Over Textbook Errors

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Vice‑President Santosh Singh Saluja has accused the state BJP government of allowing thousands of errors in newly issued textbooks for classes 1 to 8. He said the mistakes exploit children, highlighted chronic teacher shortages and alleged irregularities in education‑related contracts, including a contract awarded to the child of a BJP official, and called for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe.

Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik also condemned the situation, describing the textbook flaws as evidence of “extreme irresponsibility” and claiming the education system under the BJP has collapsed. Both leaders demanded immediate provision of error‑free textbooks and corrective action.

The controversy emerged after teachers in Odisha government schools reported numerous spelling errors and incorrect references to prominent personalities in the new Odia textbooks.
