Odisha continues flood relief as weather system weakens
Relief and recovery operations are ongoing in Odisha as the weather system responsible for heavy rainfall weakens. A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has downgraded to a depression moving toward the Myanmar coast, with meteorologists forecasting mainly dry and sunny weather through October 6.
Despite the easing weather, the state government remains on high alert. Over 13,221 individuals have been evacuated from low-lying areas, with 49 relief camps providing food, shelter, and medical assistance. Significant evacuations have occurred in Baleshwar and Jajpur.
To manage potential localized flooding and waterlogging, 43 teams from the Odisha Disaster Response Action Force (ODRAF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed across several districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, and Koraput. While heavy rain is no longer expected, a precautionary Yellow Warning remains in effect for several districts, including Cuttack, Jajpur, and Mayurbhanj, due to the possibility of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.
