Odisha couple dies after consuming healer's fertility potion

A childless couple in the Kandhamal district of Odisha died after allegedly consuming a herbal potion provided by a traditional healer. The deceased have been identified as Kanhu Kahnar and his wife, Lalita Kahnar, residents of Nedipanga village.

Seeking to conceive after years of marriage, the couple reportedly approached a practitioner from the Daringbadi area. The healer allegedly promised the concoction would aid fertility. Following consumption, both individuals fell ill. Lalita passed away while being transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, and Kanhu died a day later.

Family members claim the healer charged the couple more than Rs 1 lakh and several pieces of gold jewelry in exchange for the treatment. Preliminary police investigations suggest the potion may have contained poison. Local authorities have directed the Gochhapada police station to investigate the circumstances and the nature of the substance.
