J&K CM Omar Abdullah unveils Rs 60 cr urban plan, AI centre and flood aid
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a Rs 60 crore urban development package for Jammu, covering projects such as a Rs 23.04 crore electric‑bus depot for 100 buses at Bhagwati Nagar, an Rs 11 crore Waste‑to‑Wonder Park, a heritage trail, a modernised food street and a shopping‑municipal complex. He stressed that the Jammu‑Srinagar National Highway (NH‑44) remains the only all‑weather link, saying the Mughal Road is in worse condition and reviewing restoration work after recent landslides.
The government reconstituted the Union Territory Project Monitoring Group to oversee infrastructure and investment projects costing Rs 5 crore or more, aiming to resolve implementation bottlenecks. Following the July 19 flash floods in Rajouri that killed four people, Abdullah visited the affected area, pledged rehabilitation, compensation and restoration, and reported that electricity supply had largely been restored while water supply remained a challenge.
He also inaugurated the upgraded Residency Road–High Street corridor in Jammu, a Rs 9.18 crore civic upgrade under the Smart City Mission. In parallel, he launched the J&K Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence at IIT Jammu and introduced Project Phoenix, an AI‑enabled digital commerce platform intended to boost entrepreneurship and apply AI to agriculture, health, education and disaster management.
