Odisha Engineer Baikuntha Nath Behera Seized with Multi‑Crore Assets in Vigilance Raid

The Odisha Vigilance Department conducted coordinated raids on nine sites across Khordha, Baliguda (ITDA), Jajpur, Baripada and other districts linked to Assistant Executive Engineer Baikuntha Nath Behera. Officers uncovered five luxury multi‑storey houses, ownership documents for 13 valuable land plots, gold ornaments, two gold statues and cash exceeding ₹2 crore recovered from two bank lockers registered in his wife’s name.

Investigators say Behera started his government career in 1999 with a junior engineer salary of about ₹6,000 per month and later rose to the rank of Assistant Executive Engineer. The vigilance team alleges that his assets far surpass his declared income, constituting a case of disproportionate wealth. The department is reviewing all documents, bank accounts and investments, and will pursue legal action according to the applicable rules once the probe is complete.
