Odisha government proceeds with OCS main exams despite floods
The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has commenced the Odisha Civil Services (OCS) main examination as scheduled, despite widespread flooding and transport disruptions in southern Odisha caused by Cyclone Arnab.
While candidates and opposition parties, including the Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD), requested a postponement due to waterlogging and damaged roads in districts like Ganjam and Gajapati, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari rejected the demand. The minister stated that postponing the exam would cause a six-month delay, potentially disadvantaging prepared candidates.
To mitigate travel difficulties, the state government has instructed Block Development Officers to arrange free transportation, food, and accommodation for affected aspirants. Local administrations, such as in Berhampur, have designated specific officials to assist candidates in reaching examination centres safely.
