Odisha expands housing schemes to support vulnerable families
The Odisha government has announced a significant expansion of its housing initiatives to support economically weaker and vulnerable populations. Under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the construction of an additional 2,91,666 houses. The implementation period for this scheme has been extended by two years, moving the deadline from 2027 to 2029.
To fund this expansion, the state will maintain a total financial outlay of ₹7,550 crore by reallocating ₹3,500 crore from housing repair funds toward new construction. This scheme specifically targets families who do not qualify for assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
In a separate urban development push, the Odisha Liveable Habitat Mission is fast-tracking affordable housing projects for 10,000 urban households across nine Urban Local Bodies. Officials have been directed to prioritize interventions for landless families, destitute individuals, and older persons to ensure inclusive urban growth.
