Odisha infrastructure proposal targets NH-55 expansion and safety upgrades

A major infrastructure proposal has been introduced to improve road connectivity and safety in western Odisha. The plan involves upgrading the Sambalpur-Cuttack stretch of NH-55 from four lanes to six lanes to accommodate increasing industrial, commercial, and passenger traffic.

In addition to the highway expansion, the proposal includes the construction of two-lane service roads on both sides of the highway to assist local residents and businesses. To enhance pedestrian and local traffic safety along the Angul-Sambalpur section, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed four underpasses at Jindal Road, Jarapada, Jerang, and Charmal.

Furthermore, an overbridge is proposed near the Sambalpur City railway station to alleviate congestion. Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to prioritize these projects to support the growing economic activity in the region.
