Odisha launches 15-day inspection drive for unsafe buildings

The Odisha government has initiated a 15-day statewide inspection drive to identify unsafe and structurally vulnerable buildings. Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed officials to conduct detailed assessments and submit reports within the deadline to ensure public safety.

The inspection covers both government and privately owned structures. For government buildings, the department will handle those under its direct jurisdiction and coordinate with other departments regarding buildings they oversee. Notices have already been issued for certain identified unsafe structures.

Authorities intend to take decisive action based on the findings, which may include issuing demolition notices for buildings that pose a serious risk to life and property. Urban local bodies will play a central role in identifying these vulnerable structures and coordinating subsequent actions.
