Odisha launches CM-GROW research grant for wildlife conservation
During Wildlife Week celebrations in Odisha, the state government launched ‘CM-GROW’ (Chief Minister’s Grant for Research on Odisha’s Wildlife). This initiative is designed to promote scientific research and strengthen the foundation of wildlife conservation efforts across the region.
In addition to the research grant, several ecotourism destinations were inaugurated online, including sites in the Chandaka, Similipal North, Chilika, Sambalpur Zoo, and Hirakud wildlife divisions. The state also laid foundation stones for various upcoming ecotourism facilities and amenities.
Parallel discussions organized by the Orissa Environmental Society (OES) emphasized the critical need for protecting wildlife corridors. Experts noted that habitat fragmentation caused by urbanization, mining, and deforestation restricts animal movement and limits access to resources. They advocated for connecting forests, wetlands, and grasslands to maintain genetic diversity and ensure safe migration for wildlife populations.
