Odisha leaders mark Sambalpuri Day with cultural tributes

On August 1, Odisha observed Sambalpuri Din, honoring the birth anniversary of Guru Satyanarayan Bohidar, the pioneer of the Sambalpuri language and literature. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi posted greetings on social media, praising the region’s folk songs, dances, handloom weaving and cultural heritage. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also sent a video message, highlighting the unique identity of Sambalpuri culture and thanking local forums for their celebrations. Events across Bhubaneswar and western Odisha featured traditional dress, dance, music and food to commemorate Bohidar’s contributions.

The celebrations underscore the importance of preserving Sambalpuri language and arts, with officials urging continued enrichment of the region’s cultural legacy.
