Odisha Man Wanted in Seven Cases Injured in Police Gunfight

Ankit Ghosh, son of alleged gangster Kamlesh Ghosh, was shot in the right leg during an alleged gunfight with police near OPM Ghat in the Brajrajnagar area of Jharsuguda district, Odisha. Acting on intelligence that a group of criminals had assembled to commit a crime, a special police team approached the spot; the accused opened fire and police returned fire in self‑defence, after which one associate fled.

Ankit was taken to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital and his condition was reported as stable. Police are searching for the escaped associate. Kamlesh Ghosh, a history‑sheeter with more than 50 criminal cases including murder, extortion, bombing and illegal arms trafficking, was previously arrested in Kolkata and is currently lodged in Chaudwar Jail. Several charges under the National Security Act have been invoked against him.
