Odisha prepares for Durga Puja 2026 with infrastructure and security measures
As the 2026 Durga Puja celebrations approach in Odisha, authorities are implementing significant infrastructure and security preparations. In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has issued a 48-hour deadline for the completion of all pending road repairs to ensure safe travel during the high-traffic festive period. Officials have also been directed to prevent unauthorized road excavations by institutions.
Security is being heavily bolstered across the region. In Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police is deploying additional personnel and paramilitary forces, including a company of the CRPF’s Rapid Action Force, to manage crowds and maintain order. Similarly, in Berhampur, police have launched the “Dada Bati Ku Naa” (Say No to Extortion) initiative alongside intensified patrolling and CCTV surveillance to prevent crime.
Festivities in Bhubaneswar are expected to be diverse, with over 200 pandals featuring unique themes ranging from Vatican City and Dubai to Italian architecture and a circus-themed installation at Old Station Bazaar. Additionally, Navratri celebrations have seen the mainstreaming of Dandiya events, which have expanded from community-specific gatherings to large-scale citywide attractions.
