Odisha monitors potential Bay of Bengal cyclonic system
Odisha is monitoring a potential weather system in the Bay of Bengal that may develop into a cyclonic circulation around October 22. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not officially confirmed cyclone formation, weather models suggest the system could strengthen into a depression or a deeper disturbance. A clearer understanding of the system's trajectory and intensity is expected by October 25 or 26.
In the immediate term, the IMD has issued yellow warnings for several districts, including Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Khordha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Light to moderate rain is expected across southern and coastal parts of the state, though some areas may see dry weather by October 23.
Additionally, weather models indicate the possibility of another system developing over the Arabian Sea during the same period, which could impact India’s western coast, specifically parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
