Odisha Police and STA launch scientific road crash investigation training

Odisha Police and the State Transport Authority (STA) held a one-day training programme in Cuttack focused on scientific road crash investigation and road safety. The initiative aims to reduce fatalities by strengthening evidence-based investigations and preventive measures.

Technical experts from IIT Madras provided specialized training to police officers and stakeholders. The curriculum covered systematic approaches to crash scene examination, evidence collection and preservation, crash reconstruction, and the analysis of contributing factors such as road engineering deficiencies, vehicle issues, and human error.

Officials emphasized the importance of using reliable data to identify accident patterns and vulnerable locations. Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur noted that scientific investigation and coordinated action among stakeholders are essential to addressing the root causes of crashes and developing effective preventive strategies.
