Odisha police conduct gambling raid and drunken-driving crackdown

Police in Odisha have conducted multiple enforcement operations targeting illegal activities. In Berhampur, Bada Bazar Police raided a gambling den on August 24, arresting seven individuals. During the raid at a rented building on Kalupatra Street, officers seized ₹3,94,150 in cash, playing cards, seven mobile phones, and five two-wheelers. Authorities stated the crackdown is part of increased vigilance ahead of the upcoming festive season.

In the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police executed a night safety drive on August 26. The operation resulted in 212 detected drunken-driving cases and the seizure of 212 vehicles. In Bhubaneswar, police registered 122 cases and confiscated various four-wheelers and two-wheelers, collecting ₹79,500 in fines. In Cuttack, 90 cases of drunken driving were recorded alongside the seizure of 90 vehicles and 35 litres of liquor in separate excise cases. The drive aimed to reinforce night safety, curb organized crime, and enhance women’s safety.
