Odisha police implement high-alert security for Durga Puja

Odisha police have implemented extensive security and crowd management measures for the Durga Puja festivities. Director General of Police Vinaytosh Mishra stated that authorities are on high alert, utilizing CCTV and facial recognition cameras to prevent theft and snatching. To manage the influx of people from rural to urban areas, police have deployed mobile units and a rapid response strike force.

In Bhubaneswar, police have classified approximately 200 pandals into three categories—A, B, and C—based on anticipated footfall and size to ensure targeted resource deployment. Deputy Commissioner of Police Saravana Vivek M noted that festivities often continue until 2 am, requiring extended monitoring.

Specialized safety measures include the deployment of eight rescue teams trained in advanced life support and crowd surge management, in coordination with the Odisha Fire Services and Home Guard Department. Additionally, traffic restrictions are in place, with heavy vehicles diverted and strict enforcement against stopping on flyovers for social media content.
