Odisha Police to establish specialized anti-terror, narcotics, and road safety units

The Odisha Police is moving to establish three specialized units to address urban terrorism, narcotics trafficking, and road safety. Director General of Police YB Khurania announced that proposals for an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), an Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), and a dedicated Road Safety Wing have been submitted to the state government for approval.

The proposed ATS aims to shift the force's focus from combating Left-wing extremism to managing urban warfare scenarios in rapidly growing cities. Field-level training for commandos intended for this unit has already commenced.

To combat the illegal drug trade, the ANTF is planned to include 10 dedicated police stations and 19 intelligence units across the state, operating under an ADG-rank officer. Additionally, the Road Safety Wing is expected to consist of approximately 2,000 personnel to reduce fatalities and accidents.
