Odisha political tension rises after arrest of BJP youth leader

Political tensions have escalated in Odisha following the arrest of B Somanath Patra, the BJP Yuva Morcha president for the Ganjam district. Patra was taken into custody after allegedly obstructing police officers and attempting to interfere with a child labour rescue operation conducted by the Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit in Berhampur.

In response, a BJP delegation led by district president Saroj Sabat protested the arrest at the state party headquarters in Bhubaneswar. Simultaneously, the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena of using his influence to protect his relatives and aides from legal consequences. The BJD further alleged that police have applied lenient charges against Patra and have failed to properly investigate other criminal activities involving the minister’s associates.
