Odisha to deduct alimony from defaulting state employees' salaries
The Odisha government has implemented a new directive to ensure that court-ordered alimony and child maintenance payments are fulfilled by state employees. Under this rule, if an employee defaults on these payments, the required amounts will be automatically deducted from their monthly salary and transferred electronically to the bank accounts of the entitled recipients.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi ordered the measure following reports that employees were ignoring judicial instructions, with an average of two to three such cases reported during grievance cell hearings. To ensure compliance and transparency, the state will integrate the maintenance processing into its Human Resource Management System (HRMS). Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) are tasked with deducting these fixed amounts during the preparation of monthly salary bills.
