Odisha vegetable prices surge amid supply disruptions

Vegetable prices have surged across Odisha, placing significant financial pressure on household budgets. In major markets such as Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, several essential vegetables are retailing between Rs 60 and Rs 80 per kg.

In Cuttack’s Chhatra Bazaar, onions are priced at Rs 60 per kg, pointed gourd at Rs 80 per kg, and brinjal at Rs 60 per kg. In Bhubaneswar’s Unit-1 Haat, bitter gourd and okra are commanding rates between Rs 60 and Rs 80 per kg, while tomatoes are available for approximately Rs 40 per kg.

The price hike is attributed to prolonged rainfall, which has reportedly disrupted supply chains and affected crop yields in the coastal areas of the state.
