Odisha weather alert: IMD issues yellow warning for thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across several districts through October 10.

Between October 7 and October 8, thunderstorms with winds reaching 40-50 kmph are expected in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, and Sambalpur. Other districts, including Cuttack, Jajpur, and Kendrapara, may experience winds of 30-40 kmph. The weather activity is expected to expand to more areas, such as Subarnapur and Nuapada, on October 8 and 9.

While recent temperatures in areas like Parlakhemundi and Nayagada reached 36 degrees Celsius, the incoming weather system is expected to bring relief by dropping temperatures in the capital by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious and avoid exposure to lightning during these storms.
