Odisha weather alert: Low pressure expected in Bay of Bengal

The India Meteorological Department has forecast the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal on August 13. This system is expected to follow a cyclonic circulation currently active near the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts.

Odisha is bracing for significant weather impacts, with a yellow warning issued for 21 districts. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, including Nabarangpur, Koraput, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur. Other districts, such as Malkangiri, Kalahandi, and Sundargarh, are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

In cities like Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, intense rainfall is anticipated, which may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, and flooding in low-lying regions. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are also expected in certain locations.
