Odisha weather: IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across various districts in Odisha through October 19. The weather patterns are influenced by a western disturbance and a weakened cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea, which failed to intensify into a low-pressure area as previously forecasted.

Forecasted conditions include gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. The specific districts under alert will vary daily, including Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh. Intermittent rain is expected to continue in parts of the state until Dussehra.

Additionally, the IMD noted that conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the rest of the country and the onset of the northeast monsoon in the southern peninsular region.
