Odivelas car accident kills Brazilian woman
A 49-year-old Brazilian woman died following a car rollover on the Ponte da Bica bridge in Odivelas, Portugal. Emergency services were alerted at approximately 3:05 AM after employees at a nearby gas station witnessed the accident.
The victim was found unconscious and without signs of life inside the vehicle. Reports indicate she had left her home in the Ramada neighborhood earlier that night, telling her husband she was going to buy cigarettes.
The driver, a 26-year-old Portuguese man, reportedly fled the scene on foot shortly after the crash with minor injuries. He later presented himself at a police station in Odivelas accompanied by a lawyer.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Witness accounts suggest the possibility that the occupants were engaged in sexual activity while the vehicle was in motion, which may explain why the woman was found without a seatbelt. Forensic analysis of the vehicle is ongoing.
