Odorovsko polje designated for nature monument protection in Serbia

The Serbian Ministry of Environmental Protection has initiated the process to designate Odorovsko polje as a Nature Monument. Located in the Dimitrovgrad municipality in southeastern Serbia, the area spans over 1,260 hectares.

Minister Sara Pavkov highlighted the region's unique karst landscape, complex underground and surface water systems, and the Smilovska Lakes. These lakes support significant wetland plant communities and provide habitats for protected species, including otters, the European pond turtle, and various bird species. The area is also recognized as an internationally significant habitat for butterflies and birds.
