ODS faces election setbacks in Prague and regional cities
The Civic Democratic Party (ODS) has faced significant setbacks in recent elections, failing to meet key strategic objectives in Prague, Brno, and several regional cities. In Prague, the party narrowly lost its traditional stronghold to the Mayors and Independents (STAN) movement.
Critics and commentators suggest the ODS's performance in Prague was undermined by the perceived inactivity of Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda, often described as a ‘sleeping mayor.’ While ODS leader Tomáš Portlík noted the impact of this image, analysts argue the party leadership failed to address the need for a leadership change sooner.
On a national level, ODS leadership has characterized the election results as a failure. While the party saw successes in cities like Jihlava, Ostrava, and Pardubice, it suffered notable declines in Liberec and Karlovy Vary. The party's leadership is scheduled to meet in mid-October to address these internal issues and evaluate their performance against pre-election goals.
