ODS leadership rejects Eva Decroix's proposal on criminal record reviews

ODS party leadership has rejected a proposal by MP Eva Decroix regarding the lifelong ban on working with children for certain convicted criminals. Decroix argued against a blanket ban without judicial review, suggesting that individuals who have not committed violent acts against children should have the opportunity for periodic reassessment of their status.

ODS Chairman Martin Kupka explicitly distanced the party from Decroix’s stance, stating, “We are against any leniency for criminals who have committed a crime against children,” and clarified that the party does not support pedophiles. Former party leader Petr Fiala also issued a statement asserting that ODS has never been, is not, and will not be a party that defends abusers.

Decroix defended her position by stating that while there is no human right to work with children, there should be a mechanism for review for those who have not committed violent offenses, rather than a permanent restriction for life without the possibility of reassessment. The internal disagreement follows public criticism and concerns regarding the party's image ahead of upcoming elections.
