Ankara authorities arrest 19 in human trafficking sting
Ankara authorities have arrested 19 suspects following an investigation into human trafficking, migrant smuggling, and the promotion of prostitution in the Çankaya district. The operation targeted several entertainment venues, including Şımarık, Bişkek, Söğütdalı, Art Cafe/Bar, and Sindoma.
According to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, suspects allegedly lured foreign women to Turkey with promises of legitimate employment. These women, many of whom arrived legally due to war or economic hardship in their home countries, were reportedly coerced into forced consumption services at customer tables. In some instances, suspects allegedly facilitated the hiding of undocumented women and sent others to houses or hotels for prostitution to generate illicit profits.
Following an investigation involving communication monitoring and signal analysis, 24 suspects were detained on August 18. Of those, 19 have been formally arrested, while others remain under judicial control. The investigation identified a total of 28 individuals potentially linked to the criminal activities.
