Odyssey nears 10 million viewers in South Korea

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, ‘Odyssey’, is approaching a major milestone in South Korea, with cumulative viewership nearing 10 million. The film has become the highest-grossing foreign film of the year in the country, surpassing recent hits like ‘Spider-Man: A Brand New Day’.

Driven by high demand for premium formats like IMAX, the film has maintained the top spot at the box office for four consecutive weeks. The popularity is bolstered by frequent repeat viewings, with re-watch rates significantly higher than competing titles. In South Korea, it is the first foreign film to achieve four consecutive weeks of weekend box office leadership.

Technically, the film is noted for its use of the newly developed ‘IMAX Keighley’ camera, allowing for a full 1.43:1 aspect ratio shot on 15/70mm film. This immersive visual approach has contributed to its massive success in specialized theaters.
