Odyssey film release inspires new books and lessons on resilience

Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of Homer’s epic, titled “Odyssey” and starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, is now showing in cinemas worldwide. In parallel, Oxford classicist and clinical psychologist Dr Sam Akbar has published “Drogowskazy Odysei”, a guide that extracts seven timeless lessons on coping with personal crises from the ancient story. The Polish illustrator Bimby Landmann has also released a richly illustrated children’s book, “Niesamowita podróż Odyseusza”, which retells the hero’s ten‑year journey home and makes the myth accessible to younger readers. Both publications highlight how the odyssey’s themes of perseverance, identity and adversity remain relevant today, offering modern audiences psychological insight and cultural appreciation of the classic epic.
