OEA to send international observers for Brazilian elections
The Organization of American States (OEA) has announced it will send an international mission to monitor the upcoming general elections in Brazil this October. The observers will visit polling stations and meet with Brazilian authorities during both the first and second rounds of voting.
The agreement to allow these observers into the country was signed on Thursday by OEA Secretary-General Albert Ramdim and Brazil’s representative to the organization, Benoni Belli. This mission marks the fifth time the OEA has sent representatives to Brazil, a practice that has continued since the 2018 presidential elections. In the 2022 elections, the OEA reported that the process occurred with order and normality.
Other international bodies have also confirmed they will send observers to Brazil, including the European Union, the Mercosul Parliament (Parlasul), the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore), the Arab League, and the Network of Jurisdictional Bodies of Electoral Administration of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (Rojae-CPLP).
