OECD highlights Greek Ministry of Interior reforms for public administration
Two new reports from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), titled ‘Serving Citizens 2026: Delivering Better Public Administrative Services’ and ‘Government Unstuck: The Next Frontier of Government Transformation’, have identified positive interventions by the Greek Ministry of Interior aimed at modernizing public administration.
A central component of these reforms is the ‘Mitos’ National Registry of Administrative Procedures, which has recorded 4,413 procedures across 66 public agencies. This registry centralizes information regarding required documentation, prerequisites, and the stages necessary for citizens and businesses to complete administrative tasks. The Ministry aims to use this data to identify unnecessary documentation, standardize requirements, and reduce bureaucratic burdens.
In collaboration with the European Commission and Expertise France, the Ministry is piloting the use of Artificial Intelligence to process and analyze these procedures. To date, approximately 16,700 entries have been examined, categorizing documents into roughly 430 groups based on shared characteristics. Other key initiatives include the new Human Resources Management System (SDAD) and digital tools designed to improve recruitment planning and identify staffing shortages.
