OECD PISA 2025 data links digital device usage to science scores
Data from the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025 indicates a correlation between the duration of digital device usage in schools and science scores among OECD member students.
According to the report, students spend an average of six hours per day on digital devices during weekdays and five hours on weekends for academic or entertainment purposes. In a school setting, students spend approximately 1.7 hours daily on digital devices for learning and 1.1 hours for entertainment.
The findings show that students who do not use digital devices at all recorded lower PISA science scores, averaging 469. Conversely, students spending between three and five hours on digital devices for learning achieved the highest average science scores of 498.
