OECD upgrades country risk classifications for Guinea and Guyana
Guinea and Guyana have both received upgrades in their country risk classifications from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), effective October 16, 2026.
Guinea’s classification improved from category 7 to category 6. This shift is expected to improve the country’s financing prospects, trade, and large-scale development projects. The upgrade may lead to more favorable financing conditions and lower risk premiums for officially supported export credits, benefiting sectors such as mining, energy, transport, and industrial infrastructure.
Guyana’s classification was upgraded from category 5 to category 4. Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh noted that the move signals global confidence in Guyana’s economic fundamentals and fiscal management. Guyana now shares its category with nations such as Brazil and South Africa. This marks the country’s second upgrade in recent years, following a previous move from category 6 to 5 in 2022.
