OFAC issues temporary license for earthquake relief in Venezuela
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued General License 60 (GL 60) to facilitate humanitarian relief in Venezuela following recent earthquakes. This exceptional measure authorizes financial transactions that would otherwise be restricted under existing sanctions to mitigate earthquake-related damage.
The license allows for the processing, movement, and direct transfer of international resources into Venezuela for medical care, food, logistics, and civil infrastructure. It also permits the payment of local fees, duties, and taxes strictly related to the delivery of aid. This authorization includes interactions with the Venezuelan government and designated entities to coordinate disaster relief.
Authorities emphasized that GL 60 is strictly temporary and does not lift general sanctions, nor does it permit the unfreezing of assets or non-emergency commercial operations.
