Ofcom investigates Pornhub parent Aylo over age verification compliance
Ofcom has launched an investigation into Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub, to determine if the platform has complied with the UK Online Safety Act. The regulator is examining whether the service has implemented sufficiently effective age assurance processes to prevent children from accessing adult content.
The probe focuses on a new age verification system introduced in May 2026, which utilizes signals from Apple to indicate that certain UK users have completed Apple’s own age checks. Ofcom is investigating whether Aylo conducted adequate due diligence and testing before deploying this method. Under the Online Safety Act, the responsibility for ensuring highly effective age assurance rests with the service provider.
Failure to comply with these regulations could result in significant financial penalties for Aylo, potentially reaching up to 10 percent of its global annual turnover. Pornhub has previously reported a decline in UK traffic of more than 75 percent, which the company attributed to the strict requirements of the Online Safety Act.
