Offenburg Police Set Rules for World Cup 2026 Fan Car Parades

The police department in Offenburg, Germany, will tolerate traditional fan‑car parades (Autokorsos) after matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, provided participants observe safety rules. Police Vice‑President S. Jäger said, “Einem Autokorso steht nichts entgegen, solange man sich an die Regeln hält und die gegenseitige Toleranzgrenze nicht überstrapaziert wird.”

Enforcement will focus on preventing dangerous behaviour such as riding on vehicle roofs or hoods, driving into pedestrian zones, leaning out of windows or sunroofs, and the use of pyrotechnics. The police also stress respect for night‑time quiet, noting “Die Nachtruhe des weniger fußballbegeisterten Teils der Bevölkerung ist mindestens ebenso wichtig wie die geduldete Freude über einen Triumph.”

Fan decorations in national colours are allowed if they do not impair the driver’s view or endanger other road users. Large flags must be removed before high‑speed travel, and side‑mirror covers may be used only when they do not obscure blinkers.
