Offer Kindness rescues surplus food to combat Fresno County hunger
The nonprofit organization Offer Kindness is working to combat food insecurity in Fresno County, California, by rescuing surplus agricultural produce. In the six months since its inception in December 2025, the two-person team and their network of volunteers have recovered over 250,000 pounds of food.
Fresno County faces significant food insecurity, with a rate of 15.9%, meaning one in six residents lacks access to affordable, healthy food. Simultaneously, approximately 33.7% of harvested crops are lost before reaching the market. Offer Kindness utilizes gleaning—the practice of harvesting crops that producers cannot or choose not to sell—to bridge the gap between agricultural abundance and community need.
