Oftálmica Children's Film Festival celebrates 10th anniversary in Veracruz

The Oftálmica Children's Film Festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary with an itinerant tour across various municipalities in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. The initiative aims to decentralize cultural access and foster creativity among children.

In Xalapa, the ‘Misión Xalapa’ will take place from August 14 to 16 at the Barrio Mágico de Xallitic. The event will feature outdoor film screenings, filmmaking workshops for children, and educational talks for parents and guardians. Approximately 90 percent of the short films and audiovisual pieces exhibited are created by children and adolescents using tools such as mobile phones, stop motion, or community workshop cameras.

The festival is supported by the FOCINE call from the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) and involves strategic alliances with local governments. This anniversary marks the festival's largest reach to date, covering seven municipalities, including El Castillo and Soconusco, to bring cinema to communities that lack conventional movie theaters.
