OGBL union seeks recognition and wage upgrades for cleaning professions
The OGBL cleaning union is advocating for the formal recognition and professional upgrading of cleaning roles in Luxembourg. In a meeting held on September 30, 2026, with the Chamber of Employees (CSL), union representatives discussed the lack of structured and accessible training pathways that would allow workers to have their acquired skills officially recognized.
A primary concern is that many workers possess years of professional experience but do not automatically qualify for the qualified social minimum wage. To address this, the OGBL is calling for legislative changes to ensure that ten years of professional experience grants clear entitlement to the qualified social minimum wage.
The CSL has already drafted a legislative proposal to this effect, which was submitted to the relevant ministry in June. However, the proposal has yet to receive a response. The OGBL has stated it remains fully committed to ensuring the expertise and daily labor of cleaning professionals are appropriately valued.
