Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic cuts electricity costs by 80%

Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in Aba has reported an 80 per cent reduction in electricity costs following its connection to Aba Power. The Rector, Engr. Dr. Christopher Okoro Kalu, noted that the institution previously faced significant financial strain due to the high cost of diesel and generator maintenance.

The transition to the power grid has decreased the school's reliance on generators, allowing saved funds to be redirected toward other institutional needs. Beyond financial savings, the steady electricity supply has improved the campus environment for teaching, research, and administrative activities, even extending into the evening hours.

Dr. Kalu credited a meeting with Prof. Bart Nnaji, founder and Chairman of Geometric Power, for bringing attention to the polytechnic's energy requirements. The improved supply has also reportedly reduced pollution levels on campus by minimizing prolonged generator use.
