OGC Nice midfielder Laurent Abergel suffers serious knee injury
OGC Nice midfielder Laurent Abergel has suffered a serious knee injury that will sideline him for several months. Following a friendly match against Cagliari, medical examinations confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
The 33-year-old, who joined the club this summer on a free transfer from Lorient, was expected to be a key veteran presence in manager Olivier Pantaloni’s tactical setup. Abergel was intended to provide stability and mentorship to younger players like 17-year-old Djibril Coulibaly.
This injury marks the fourth major ACL tear experienced by OGC Nice players in the last three seasons. The club now faces a difficult decision regarding its midfield depth, potentially needing to return to the transfer market despite efforts to manage spending, or accelerating the development of internal youth options.
